As you can see by Jennifer's fine art charcoal sketch this 9 year old is getting a solid grounding in drawing. Technically speaking, this sketch is perfect, the reflection of
light,
the dimension and perspective are accurate, and the shadows are realistically cast.

Why do all of our students still life fruit and cups? The answer is quite simple. In order to teach them how to manipulate light and shadow, how to artistically portray three dimensional object, and how objects relate to the whole of the art peice, we have the students drill with simple objects first.
Having the student try to immediatly draw a difficult three dimensional object -such as a face or human body - immediately, with no grounding in the fine art of drawing, is much too high of a gradient. This only sets them up for failure.
Our students do draw and paint beautiful original pieces of art, but only after they study and can apply basic fine art drawing fundamentals such as contained in Art of Drawing for Kids home study course!

• 30 Non-Toxic Pastels
