How are we able to get out students to product almost photo quality oil paintings?
the answer is quite simple, the first thing we do before they touch a palette or paintbrush is to get a thorough grounding in the art of drawing.
It is much more fruitful to teach a student visual art fundamentals such as the use of light and shadow, perspective, tone, and the use of angles with pencil and charcoal.
Since drawing is an easier medium for the student than paint, he can begin to create art much sooner than starting right away with paint. This allows the fine art student a "win" and encourages him along in his studies, instead of making things too hard for him and having him give up in frustration.
