If one is to learn to draw and paint, one needs a workable method. A "method" is a way of doing something, especially according to a defined plan (from the Thorndike-Barnhart Student Dictionary).
THE GLUCK METHOD (also THE METHOD) is a planned sequence of steps designed to give anyone the ability to draw and paint beautifully.
THE GLUCK METHOD consists of information, demonstrations, exercises and goal-oriented assignments. All are precisely arranged in order to build artistic talent from the bottom up. Done exactly as given, the entire sequence can furnish an individual with a lasting foundation as a fine artist.
There is no shortage of so-called "art instruction." Thousands of art schools, art departments, art classes and working artists, worldwide, hang out shingles advertising that they teach fine art. Hundreds and hundreds of books are available on the subject.
So why use THE METHOD?
The answer lies in the meaning of the word "foundation." It means "a part upon which other parts rest for support."
The correct foundation for any endeavor should have at its base the MOST FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE about that field. This bottom-most knowledge is what provides the basic understanding that is needed to succeed in that field.
Supported by these underlying basic ideas and principles, an individual can work in a chosen field of endeavor, and continue to grow, improve, change and expand in it over the course of an entire lifetime. On the other hand, without all of the correct basics, that same person will have less success or, in time, will cease working in that field.
And so it is with drawing and painting.
THE GLUCK METHOD is the only complete method of fine art instruction that presents the full complement of underlying principles for drawing and painting. It is also the only method to provide students with a means of acquiring all the talent needed to create competent representational (real-looking) drawings and paintings.
Done exactly as given, THE METHOD transforms someone without natural talent into someone who has the talent to create beautiful works of art.
In addition, THE METHOD can fill in any gaps in the knowledge or skills of naturally talented individuals, or those who have trained elsewhere but without real success. (Witness the fact that thousands of “would-be” artists have studied in art schools and college or university art departments for years, without having received any workable instruction in tone or color mixing.)
The idea that anyone can actually learn to draw and paint beautifully “from scratch,” regardless of whether or not they have any “talent,” has never been thought of as possible. The whole idea is so new that people have to see it to believe it.
THE METHOD is like the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz. A student needs only to follow it, and he or she will acquire the talents that lie behind the magical curtain of fine art.
